At Quint Valley Gun Dogs in Bennett, Colorado, we offer Snake Avoidance Classes by appointment, 7 days a week through the end of June.
We’ve moved away from large group clinics and now focus on individual, one-on-one classes, giving your dog the time and attention needed for a more effective learning experience.
Why This Class Matters
Colorado’s outdoor lifestyle means real exposure to snakes. This class helps your dog recognize and avoid danger, giving you confidence whether you are on the trail, hunting, or at home on your property.
What’s Included
- Live exposure to non-venomous bull snakes to simulate real encounters
- Proven snake avoidance techniques
- One-on-one class tailored to your dog’s behavior and responses
- Hands-on instruction from Jerry Yokum, our upland and off-leash trainer
Our Approach
During the class, Jerry uses his patented Yokum No Pull / No Choke Leash along with other professional training tools to communicate clear, well-timed corrections while your dog is exposed to snakes.
When a dog shows interest in the snake, a precisely timed correction is applied. Dogs quickly make the connection between the snake and the correction, which teaches them to avoid snakes altogether.
The leash provides control and guidance throughout the process, ensuring clear communication and helping your dog respond appropriately. This combined approach creates a reliable, real-world avoidance response.
